Have you ever thought that Moscow State University is older, than the State of USA?
Just imagine - MSU was established in 1755, and the birthday of USA is supposed to be 4th of July 1776 (this date is written on a stone in Statue of Freedom's hand, which itself was erected in 1886). Just imagine, people, just imagine!..
With tremendous growth of technologies nowadays more and more people all over the planet are tending to have a university grade. This pushed me to tell a couple of words about one of greatest world's universities - MSU - from student's [i.e. mine] point of view. All you can find below is my own opinion, which, of course, may differ from other's ones.
Campus
I can say for sure, that most of Europeans can find MSU campus awful. Mice and roaches will be your friends for all the period of staying in a campus - one day myself I caught 14 mice in a mice-tarp in my wardrobe. Sometimes people poison them, so you are free of "guests" for a while, but then they, of cause, happily come back.
Also you should mention that not all Russians are very friendly, so your roommates might disturb you with loud music and so on. Smoking is forbidden, but no one cares about that. Also is forbidden to have microwave, boilers and so on: administration takes care of an electricity supplies. But in general - in a campus you are provided with a bed, and this is still nice.
Students' routine in a campus is drinking, cooking, spending time in front of a PC and having fun. There exist a public forum of a campus, and many people discuss more or less actual topics there for hours. Most of the campuses have a little gym.
Studies
If you are interested in it, you will get it. Does not matter, what exactly you are focused on - in MSU you definitely are able to find a qualified person to talk with. But the point is that if will not pay attention to the studies at all, you certainly will be sent down. Just believe me. Certainly. You had better not to check it yourself. The process of studies itself is connected with a little higher dose of bureaucracy, than in an average Russian University.
The level of education in MSU is very high (and varies from one department to another), but only for ones, who really wants to be educated. The sad reality is that more and more students came to the University just to have a valued diploma. Consequences are obvious.
Another world
Being a large social institute, MSU is "a city in a city" and has very branchy structure. Students' theatre, chorus and so on provide you extremely more ways to spend your time, than you have. So you should be careful not to forget to sleep.
In a word, at least having a look on MSU worths it, as it's older than USA. |
