How Blogging Might Bring Peace on Earth
Blogging seems like a recent phenomenon but it has actually been around for at least five years in a quiet way, but recently everyone is talking about blogging. Still you are not sure what blogging is. All you really know is that it is something to do with the internet. This is a good time as any, to explore blogging further.
The advent of the internet and the simplification of web writing software has made it possible for anyone to purchase a URL and set up a site. What would you put on this site if your not selling anything? You think if you set up a web site and tried blogging you may be able to earn some extra income through advertising.
Remember the days of the company staff newsletter, or the client newsletter, or marketing materials for clients, well blogging is replacing all of these. The benefits to the company, staff and clients are that blogging is far easier to produce and to keep up to date. In this way, the relationships become closer, business becomes easier.

The company staff newsletter is generally a pain to produce, it takes a lot of work and deciding whom to include or exclude in the feature stories can be bothersome, political and sometimes just plain painful. Blogging won’t solve these types of problems for you, but what it will do is give you feedback and connect you to your audience. Yes, sometimes the comments are just criticisms and the criticisms are harsh and unfounded but this is real life. People are not always restrained, people get upset, and later on the people regret it. In the role of the author of the blog, you act as a mediator, of course you are also a content knowledge leader but you might find out that some of your audience wants to challenge you in this role. These are the challenges, and at the same time the opportunities of the blog.
Client marketing is a big job. We are talking about marketing, and not direct sales. It is about giving the consumer what they need rather than what we think they need by pushing our products on to them. Blogging can assist in this endeavor. Focus groups only deliver the conscious thoughts of the carefully selected market representative group. The participants may be careful to say what they think is palatable, in the group context, rather than what they really think. Blogging may deliver the same sort of results but the anonymity that bloggers can enjoy should negate this affect. You should be able to get the real information out of your actual and potential clients. The key is listening and responding to them. If you are given advice or criticism you should respond in a constructive and respective manner, as a no response or a critical response can actually do more damage to your company’s reputation than not providing a blogging service and being thought to be behind the times.

Newspapers, will they continue to be in paper form for ever, it seems so at the moment, but if you go on line and read the articles you will see that the writers have set up blogs. What is a blog again? The writer has generally written a short article and posts this on line. The writer may or may not encourage the article to be rated, and generally they will ask you to post comments on the site. Other readers of the article will join in and you have a conversation, a group chat, the writer will also join in sometimes and the topic discussion is pushed to a new level. The audience and co-contributors can be from any country and from any walk of life. There is no screening out process, the only screen is the individual’s ability to communicate at the level of the topic of conversation.
Studying on-line provides you the opportunity to engage with international cohorts. The benefits to you as a student group can be enormous if blogging is used. You will be able to listen to perspectives radically different to your own, perspectives coming from completely different cultural norms, and religious backgrounds. Again respect for the individual is absolutely critical to be able to get the maximum from the blog. Video blogging, image blogging, Pod Cast, in the end it is still blogging. A medium of content is shared and comments are solicited.

Could peace on earth be the long term end result of blogging? Most probably not, but blogging can be a constructive stepping stone to sharing ideas, news and perspectives. Any medium that provides opportunity for communication between those who don’t generally have good reason to establish open dialogue with each other provides an opportunity for a more harmonious world, but unfortunately if blogging is misused it also provides an opportunity for disrespect, revenge and retaliation.
Many institutions are posting rules and etiquette for blogging. When email was first introduced, we went through similar steps of correcting the misunderstandings that were developing because in the end the written word can be a lot harsher than communication softened through facial expression and immediate clarification. With the passage of time, and income growth of the general population we can see that aspirations of the individuals are becoming similar between all the countries. Access to a computer to engage in blogging is not limited to the wealthy class but to anyone that has access to a free internet service in a library or can afford to pay the internet charges at an internet café, let alone those who have broad band services straight into their homes. The segment of society that is excluding from blogging and can be influenced through radio and television are the poor. It is the voices of the poor that we are not hearing and engaging with, as this is the largest segment of the world’s population we will not have peace on earth until all persons have access to the tools of internet technology.
