A photograph of two policemen kissing in a birch forest has sparked a bitter feud between the state-appointed director of Russia\'s foremost galley and the nation\'s Culture Minister. After Culture Minister Alexander Sokolov called the Tretyakov Gallery\'s Sots-Art exhibit, which is showing in Paris through January 20, \"pornographic\" and \"corrupt,\" Tretyakov director Valentin Rodionov, who was forced to remove some of the more offensive items from the Paris display, decided to take action. He sued, for a compensation of \"one ruble\" and an \"apology\" for \"insulting the honor and standing\" of the gallery. The artwork has already been exhibited in Moscow at the Second Annual Modern Art Biennale. In early October, when the artwork was slated to be shipped to France, Sokolov made some of his more pointed comments. \"If it is shown there, it will shame Russia,\" the Culture Minister announced, noting that it included \"those kissing policemen, erotic pictures.\"
